Civil Air Patrol is a private, nonprofit corporation
chartered under a special act of Congress. Additionally, CAP is the
auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force when it performs Air Force assigned
missions.
CAP performs three main missions: Aerospace Education,
Cadet Programs, and Emergency Services.
|
The CAP Cadet Program is for youth aged 12 to 20.
Through their CAP experience, cadets develop into responsible citizens
and leaders.
The Cadet Program is not just fun and rewarding, it
challenges cadets to develop the self-discipline, strong character, and
team spirit they will need to become tomorrow's aerospace leaders.

Senior members choose a specialty track, to determine
their CAP duty assignment and required training.
To accomplish its mission, CAP requires an informed,
active senior membership trained in leadership, management, and
functional tasks. The CAP Senior Member Professional Development Program
prepares members to serve their units, their communities, and their
nation.

While CAP has long been associated with search and rescue
missions, its work also includes disaster relief and communications, as
well as counter-drug and homeland security missions.
In search and rescue, CAP continues to conduct 95 percent of all federal
inland SAR missions, as directed by the Air Force Rescue Coordination
Center (AFRCC) at Langley AFB, Va. CAP also supports the Joint Rescue
Coordination Centers in Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
